Find a Job Find a Candidate

Active Status - The Active Status will allow you to temporarily place your candidacy or posted job in an inactive state. All information associated to the candidate or job is maintained, but it will be hidden from the public. All of the career search and management features are still available to you, but remember, if you have made yourself inactive, you are hidden from prospective employers and candidates that may be interested in you or your job.

Candidate - an individual searching for a job. You may also be a Registered Candidate. Job searches using the ExpressSearch, or DetailedSearch are available. The Virtual Interview is not available since it requires a candidate profile to be submitted. The Save Job feature is available, allowing you to save jobs for the duration of your visit to gobsofjobs. Note: You will be logged out if your session is idle for 20 minutes. Since only registered candidates may request contact with an employer, registration is recommended.

DetailedSearch - allows the user to search the entered keyword or words. A candidate doing a DetailedSearch will search the entire contents of all posted jobs. An employer doing a DetailedSearch will search all portions of the resume that the candidate has authorized and all of the answers to the profile questions. If more than one word is entered, they should be separated by a space. By clicking on the "DetailedSearch" button, the search will target the entire (default) database of jobs or candidates for the entered keyword. The search can also be limited based on the following criteria:

  • select position: The default is to search all positions. A consistent naming convention for the position is used for all employers posting jobs and candidates submitting resumes.

  • select industry: The default is to search all industries. A consistent naming convention for the industry is used for all employers posting jobs and candidates submitting resumes.

  • within: select scope for entered keyword - The search can be limited to searching the entered keyword within specific fields in the database such as City, State, Country, Job ID, Candidate ID, Area Code, etc. If you choose "Area Code", then an area code, such as 408, should be entered in the keyword field. Multiple area codes may be searched by entering them in the keyword field separated by a space. For example, if you would like to search all the jobs or candidates in the state of CA and NY, select "within" State, "using" "any of" and enter CA NY in the keyword field. Selecting "using" "any of" tells the search engine to display any job or candidate in the state of CA "or" the state of NY. If you would like to search for a specific Job ID, select "within" Job ID and enter the Job ID number in the keyword field.

  • using: determines how the words entered in the keyword field are searched. "exactly" will search for the entire string entered exactly as it was entered, in its entirety. Do not surround the entered string in quotes if you do not want the quotes included in the search. For example, if you enter asic engineer, the string asic engineer will be searched for. "any of" will search for "any" of the keywords entered. Selecting "any of" and entering asic engineer will display results that contain the word asic or the word engineer. "all of" will display results that include all of the words entered. Entering asic engineer will require that both the word asic and the word engineer is contained within the searched items.

  • enter keyword: a single word or multiple words that will be used for the DetailedSearch. If multiple words are entered, they should be separated by a space. The words can contain letters, numbers and special characters.

  • search from: determines the scope, or the pool of jobs or candidates used for in the DetailedSearch. The default, "all" indicates that all jobs or candidates will be searched. "displayed" indicates that only the current or last displayed jobs or candidates will be searched. This is analogous to search "searched". The search is performed on the results of the previous search. This may have resulted from an ExpressSearch, DetailedSearch, Virtual Interview or by viewing your Saved jobs or candidates. During the course of your session you may choose to save certain jobs or candidates for later review. If you are registered, you may have jobs or candidates saved from a previous session. By selecting "saved" the DetailedSearch" will be limited to only search the jobs or candidates you have saved.

  • not older than: allows you to limit the search to those jobs or candidates that have been submitted or updated in the last selected number of days.

  • sort results by: will sort, or order the displayed results of the DetailedSearch by the selected item. The default, "Date" will sort the results by most newest to oldest. Selecting "State" will order the results alphabetically by state. Selecting "Job ID" or "Candidate ID" will sort the results numerically by ID. If you are searching for jobs and have selected "Salary", the results will be sorted from highest starting salary to lowest starting salary.

Employer - A company that has job openings. You may also be a Registered Employer . Candidate searches using the ExpressSearch or DetailedSearch are available. The Save Candidate feature is available allowing you to save interesting candidates for the duration of your visit to gobsofjobs. Note: You will be logged out if your session is idle for 20 minutes. Since only registered employers may request contact with a candidate, registration is recommended.

ExpressSearch - used for job or candidate searches. Unlike typical selection based searches, the ExpressSearch is a quick search method allowing you to select one "or more" industries and one "or more" positions for your search criteria. gobsofjobs has provided a consistent set of industries and positions for candidates submitting resumes and employers posting jobs. To select the industries and positions you would like to search, click on the red lights (off) to toggle them green (on). All of the green light items will be used for the search. If more than one light is green within an industry or position, your results will match any of the industries and positions selected. If you select at least one industry and at least one position, the results will match the industries selected "and" the positions selected. The green and red arrows on the left side allow you to quickly toggle all lights within a category to green or red. The ExpressSearch button in the upper left corner initiates the search. If you would like to search only one industry or one position, you may click directly on that items link.

Profile Questions - a series of skillset related questions. The questions are categorized into sections and are to provide standard and specific information about qualifications and experiences. Registered as a candidate you describe your own skills and as a registered employer who has posted a job you are describing your ideal candidate. The candidate's answers will be available to prospective employers. The employers answers will not be visible on gobsofjobs. Employers who have posted a job will also rate the importance of each answer. Both candidate and employer should review all pertinent questions, but only answer the ones related to your experience or requirement. If these are questions or sections you feel would be a valuable addition to the Profile Questions, please submit feedback via e-mail.

Red Flags? - Available to registered candidates and employers, the Red Flag Analysis is intended to be used as a final check prior to requesting an interview with an employer or candidate. The industry sector, position, area code, relocation, salary range, and degree of travel are entered when an employer posts a job and a candidate submits a resume. If there are any mismatches in these preferences, the color coded display will highlight these mismatches in red. Matching preferences are highlighted in green and preferences that partially match or may be negotiable are highlighted in yellow. The Red Flag Analysis is available on a per candidate or job basis or can be executed against all saved or displayed jobs or candidates.

This keeps your information in place but you are the only party that can see it.

Save - Saving jobs or candidates allows you to store the IDs for future reference. This is valuable if you use different search approaches. After your first search you may save a job or candidate, and on subsequent searches the save checkbox for those previously saved would be checked. You can also limit the Virtual Interview to only interview those IDs you have previously saved. If you are a Registered Candidate or Registered Employer, your saved list is stored for future use. If you are not Registered, the saved IDs will be removed after you have completed the session. The saved IDs are also reported as a count in the My gobs. You may click on the number in the saved column to only view those jobs or candidate you have saved. For employers, you may have multiple jobs posted with different requirements. You can associate saved candidates to your Employer ID or any Job ID. The Active ID is the ID the candidates you are saving will be associated with.

Set Active ID - applies only to employers. As an employer you may have posted a job or many jobs. You have an Employer ID and each Job has a Job ID. You may want to focus on a particular job during a session. Since you may want to Save searched candidates or perform a Virtual Interview for a particular job, you must first make that job active. This can be done using "Set Active ID" or by clicking on "Set" in the Account Summary. If you do not have any jobs posted or wish to Save candidates to your employer ID, it should be made active. Virtual Interview -advanced candidate-job matching software resulting in a high degree of candidate-job compatibility. The Virtual Interview rates your responses to the Profile Questions to those of prospective jobs or candidates. The "Virtual Interview" is available to Registered Candidates and Registered Employers who have answered the Profile Questions.

Virtual Interview for Candidates - After you have registered, and preferrably submitted a resume, you may answer the Profile Questions. Your answers to the Profile Questions are compared to the answers employers have selected for their Posted Jobs. You select from the pool of jobs you would like to enter the Virtual Interview, all jobs posted, the jobs you have saved or the jobs whose IDs you have entered. The employer sets the requirements for the job and your qualifications are compared to those requirements. The Virtual Interview will return jobs that you may not have found during the ExpressSearch or DetailedSearch. You can also learn how qualified you are for particular jobs before you meet with an employer.
When an employer answers the Profile Questions for a posted job,
they rate the answer to each question, so even though your answer may not match theirs, they may not have rated the question as a "Required". Instead, it may have been rated as a "Preferred" or "Relevant" skill. Since it is unlikely you will meet the needs of all of the questions the employer has rated as "Required" you can select a percentage (10-100) of the employer's "Required" questions for which you must have the same answer to. For example, if there's a job for which an employer has rated 10 of the Profile Questions as "Required", selecting "100%" would require you to have answered those same 10 questions exactly the same. This may result in few jobs reported. Selecting "80%" would mean your answers would only have to match 8 of 10 required questions. Employers may over constrain their requirements and may be flexible on certain ones. Obviously matching "100%" (default) of the jobs requirements would mean you are very qualified for a job.
The jobs returned from the Virtual Interview are color coded scores. The first column is the Job ID. The next three columns are color coded. The "Required" score is for the questions the employer rated as required. The "Preferred" score is for those questions the employer rated as a "Preferred" skill for the job and "Relevant" is given to a question the employer would like to see your answer to, but is not very important in selecting a candidate. Three numbers are displayed for each score. The first number is how many questions whose answers you have a Full Match or exact match. The second number indicates the number of questions for you have a Partial Match. Since some questions allow more than one answer to be selected (checkboxes), you may have checked one or more of the answers required by the job. Since you may not have checked all the answers required by the job, a partial match will result. For example, if the job requires Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint skills, and you only checked Microsoft Word skills, a partial match would be scored. The last number or Total Questions, is the total number of questions given that rating by the employer. The Save column allows you to Save the job in your account for future reference. The last column allows you to request contact with that employer. The displayed jobs are ordered from most qualified to least qualified based on the reported scores.

Virtual Interview for Employers - After you have posted a job, you may answer the Profile Questions for that job. Imagine you are interviewing a candidate for your job. Your answers to the questions are the answers you would want a candidate to give during the interview process. You select from the pool of candidates you would like to enter the Virtual Interview, all candidates, the candidates you have saved for the job or the candidates whose IDs you have entered. You set the requirements for the candidates and your requirements are compared to the candidates skillsets contained in the Profile Questions they have answered. The Virtual Interview will return candidates that you may not have found during the ExpressSearch or DetailedSearch.
Since some qualifications are more important than others, so you will also "rate" each question. A rating of "Required" means the candidate must match your answer exactly. The questions you rate as "Required" are used during the Virtual Interview to determine whether a candidate has met your minimum set of requirements. At least one question must have a rating of "Required". The "Preferred and "Relevant" ratings are used in the score reported for each qualified candidate to rank order the returned candidates from most qualified to least qualified. Since it is unlikely that the candidates will meet the needs of all of the questions you have rated as "Required" you can select a percentage (10-100) of the "Required" questions for which the candidates must have the same answer to. For example, if there's a job you have rated 10 of the questions as "Required", "100%" would require the candidates to have answered those 10 questions exactly the same. This may result in few candidates reported. Selecting "80%" would mean their answers would only have to match 8 of 10 required questions. Obviously matching "100%" (default) of the jobs requirements would mean the candidate is very qualified for the job. Be careful not to overconstrain by specifying too many questions a "Required".
The candidates returned from the Virtual Interview display color coded scores. The first column is the Candidate ID. The "Required" score is for the questions that you rated as required. The "Preferred" score is for those questions that you rated as a "Preferred" and "Relevant" is for the questions you rated as "Relevant". Three numbers are displayed for each score. The first number is how many questions whose answers the candidate has a Full Match or exact match for. The second number indicates the number of questions the candidate has a Partial Match for. Since some questions allow more than one answer to be selected (checkboxes), you may have checked one or more of the answers required by the job. Since the candidate may not have checked all the answers required by the job, a partial match will result. For example, if the job requires Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint skills, and the candidate only checked Microsoft Word, a partial match would be scored. The last number or Total Questions, is the total number of questions given that rating. The Save column allows you to Save the candidate in your job account for future reference. The last column allows you to request contact with that candidate. The displayed candidates are ordered from most qualified to least qualified based on the reported scores. You will also have full visibility to the answers the candidate provided. The questions, your answers and the candidates answers are color coded, Green, Yellow, Red. Green indicates a Full Match of your answers by the candidate. Yellow indicates a Partial Match and Red indicates no match, or a completely different answer.

Virtual Interview Scratchpad - allows you to do a 'What-if' of your candidates qualifications without changing the stored profile. You may want to relax or tighten certain answers and ratings to see what candidates will match. After you have profiled your candidate, click the 'Take Virtual Interview' button. If you would like to permanently save the current answers and ratings, click the 'Save to Database' button. The 'Reset Form' button will reset the answers and ratings to the original values stored in the database. The Virtual Interview Scratchpad is available to Registered Candidates and Registered Employers who has answered the Profile Questions.
